The Inaugural Post

This is the first post of my blog. Isn’t that exciting? Hell yes it is! Why is it called “The Bedlamite Blog” you may ask. Because, “The random ramblings about remarkably relevant resolutions rendered by a raving rotund rascal” was much too long and “(enter name here, possibly “Mike”) loves penis” was much too juvenile. “The Irishman” was taken, as was, surprisingly, “Screw the Irish”. Although I think the latter was not so much a blog as it was instructions. “Yeou Moer” was denied on account of the cursing in a foreign language clause. And “I like Bunnies” lead to a place that even I was disturbed to stumble upon. After much careful deliberation I chose “The Bedlamite Blog”… so there.

Next question: Why do a blog? The answer is simple. My computer is a vast labyrinth of lost ideas from the darkest reaches of my mind that I jot down in the early hours of the morning. This makes finding them difficult as I have no proper organization of where I put them. Mostly…I don’t remember that I have even added an idea or story to the collection until I find it weeks later. My memory is a plethora of useless knowledge that leaves very little room for common everyday memories. This blogging experiment is an attempt to somehow whip my disorganized psyche into some semblance of order. I guess I should have just called this blog “I Don’t Remember”. The idea is: this will be a place for me to put ideas, thoughts, rude gestures, pictures, characters, story seeds, etc… that hit me in the middle of the night/early in the morning/in the middle of the day/when I’m at sea/while spelunking. Alternatively, I figure this will be localized place to post my collective works and projects that I always seem to be working on. There is always something, might as well talk about it here. Also I may have thoughts and opinions about stuff that I want to post here. (Yes, I used the word “stuff”. I COULD have posted another, maybe slightly humorous, list of what these things that I have thoughts and opinions on might be instead of using the word stuff. But, I have already had too many lists for an opening post, and typing out another five subject list would just, frankly, just be a waste of my valuable blog space. So, in order to conserve, I will not be posting a list of what exactly “stuff” might include.) See, simple answer. If you are still reading this, congratulations.

I figured a good place to start off this nexus of projects is to list what work is already floating around out here in cyber space. So, it is time for some links.

The Dudecast

First off is the most updated and longest time commitment project is: The Dudecast. The Dudecast is a podcast that I do with my friend Mike. So far we have recorded only six podcasts. What is it we talk about? Well…whatever we damn well please. Our topics range from the best movies of 2009 to the inevitable zombie apocalypse. The first two podcasts that we recorded and posted are a little bit of a hodgepodge of everything, and quite frankly, a little hard to listen to. But we are getting our act together. If you are only going to listen to one of the Dudecasts may I suggest that you listen to the Music Dudecast, it is the best one so far.

Warcraft Shorts: Tides of Darkness

Warcraft Shorts: Tides of Darkness is the biggest film project that I have had the pleasure of being a part of thus far. It was “produced” under the guise of Raging Goblin Mutational, a factitious company that we made up for the occasion. It is a short compilation of characters from the Warcraft universe talking about different aspects of the game from their point of view. This project is the brainchild of Mr. Haar and myself. I don’t know how it came about but one day we began writing scripts based on a film style of the CreativeJuices7 team, but with a Warcraft twist. We produced a large stack of character scripts but did not have the resources to turn them into anything. Our ideas came to fruitarian thanks to the creative and technical stylings of the Haas siblings; their abilities surpassed my wildest fancies. Between the two of them they were able to take our ideas on paper and make them a reality through the use of makeup and editing. The scripts were brought to life by an awesome cast of actors who put up with a dictator of a director under harsh conditions. The end product came out better than I could have imagined. If you know nothing about Warcraft, you probably won’t get the humor.

The Adventures of Zeet Nagley: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas

The adventures of Zeet Nagley were created by my friend Matt McGee. He is a puppeteer with a lot of talent. It was my pleasure to do the filming and lighting for these short holiday films about his adventurous alien character, Zeet Nagley. Together with his friend Dwee-Dow, Zeet gets into humorous adventures. These are light hearted and children friendly. They are actually geared more for kids but I find adults enjoy them too. Everything was filmed in Matt’s apartment in front of a piece of green felt that we thumb-tacked to the wall. Each puppet is filmed individually in front of our make-shift green screen. Then in editing it is patched together to make a comprehensive video. In the very last frame of the Thanksgiving video there are twenty three puppets in the video moving about. They are fun videos to make and watch. Matt making turkey noises for an hour while I film it is an interesting experience in itself.

Well, I think that shall do it for an opening post. I am sure there are more things out there…but I have forgotten. If I remember I will post them here. Hopefully. I leave you with this:
